Wester Ensemble Recital

Next Tuesday, January 28th, we will be holding an Ensemble Recital from 6-7pm at Wester Middle School.  Your students have been working very hard on their ensembles and are excited to perform them for you.

The students should all arrive between 5:30 and 5:50pm.  The first group will begin playing at 6:00pm and the last group will be finished around 7:00pm.  We would like all students to stay for the entire recital.  We encourage all parents to stay and listen – we will have chairs set up and programs available.  There will be two performance locations – the brass will be playing on the stage in the cafeteria and the woodwinds will be playing in the band hall.

Students should wear nice clothes (please, no tshirts, jeans, sneakers or flip-flips) for their performance.

This is a required event for all Brass and Woodwind players in Concert 1, Concert 2 and Symphonic Band

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at blackmj@friscoisd.org.

Concert Attire

We have our first round of concerts coming up in the middle of December:

December 10th:  Wester Symphony Concert (at CHS) – Symphonic Band Students only

December 12th:  Beginning Band Concert (at WMS) – Beginning Band Students only

December 17th:  Winter Concert (at CHS) – Symphonic, Concert 2 and Concert 1 students only

We have a specific concert uniform that the students should wear:

All Beginners:  Band tshirt (grey #bestbandshirtever) and blue jeans

SB/C2/C1:  Concert uniform:

  • girls:  We provide the black dress. You provide black dress shoes (preferably close-toed).  You may wear tights/hose/leggings as long as they are black or nude.
  • boys:  We provide tux shirt, vest and bowtie.  You provide black dress pants, tall black dress socks, black dress shoes and a black belt.

Please make sure that you try on your concert uniform to ensure it fits.  You are welcome to alter the uniform (take in the waist of the dress or vest and/or raise the dress hemline), however, DO NOT CUT OFF ANY FABRIC FROM THE UNIFORM.  If you cut off any fabric, you are responsible for purchasing the item (and, as I have told the kids, I can think of a lot of other things I would rather spend my money on).

It is important that your student wear the proper uniform to the concert.  This is part of the performance process and helps us to look professional on the stage.

If you have any questions, please contact your student’s band director.
